Dear family and friends, I have been honored with the opportunity to participate in a leadership development program to help more than 1.3 million Americans who are living with blood cancer. My campaign team, Cavs 4 a cure , and I are competing in The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) Student Visionaries of the Year campaign! We recently kicked off our 7-week journey to help LLS raise money and achieve its mission: to cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease, and myeloma and to improve the quality of life of patients and their families. This mission is important to me because cancer has affected several members of my family, including both of my grandparents and my aunt. My aunt and one of my grandmothers both thankfully survived cancer! My aunt was diagnosed with breast cancer, and my grandmother with bladder cancer. Unfortunately, my other grandmother passed away from esophageal cancer after a two-year battle. Not only have I seen the profound impact of this in my own family but also on those in my inner circle who have endured the heartache of losing a loved one to cancer. Now more than ever, we need to take initiative and shine light on this scary and deadly disease. Let’s make an impact and help families and others who might be dealing with cancer!
